more discounts

November 2, 2009 by bitingthepenny

Today, I had to dispute a medical bill sent through the mail for a service I HAD ALREADY PAID FOR. Yikes! I think some folks don’t dispute claims and end up paying extra! Today was a boatload of discounts. I had to kill time while getting car mainenance, and miraculously paid only 35 bucks for tire rotations, oil change, brake check, etc with a AAA coupon. Killing time meant walking about the strip mall. I found a salon that offered discounted eyebrow threading at the lowest fee I’ve seen at six bucks. It also saved me a burdensome trip of driving extra to get to my original salon. I also managed to recycle a trunkload of papers and plastic. It’s been a record of recycling more than I’ve thrown out!

art stuff, yarn stuff

October 25, 2009 by bitingthepenny

I think I saved $78 bucks saving myself a trip to see Nicky Epstein and get her book, and give up on a blouse (for now) that I was planning on knitting. I am taking those painting classes, so something had to be removed to fit that in. I did use the Joann’s coupon to get my RIT dye to dye my shorts I got at Express for believe it or not, SIX BUCKS! It was a white pair of shorts that I will turn into khaki color. I also bought some Duct tape to make my plastic bags totes, check out duckproducts.com

more bargains, Hulu

October 23, 2009 by bitingthepenny

At Sams Club, they finally got their new book arrivals which oddly had stopped for a bit. I get my armchair readers there, and woowoo, I got the latest 7 bucks off! I was THIS close to getting it full price at Barnes/Noble. Anyways, I have to get started on my holiday projects and got a 40% coupon from Michaels, 40% off at Joann’s, and 25% from Hobby Lobby. For those wondering if the prices get jacked up for these coupons, I am buying already cheap art supplies anyway. Since I’m thrifty, as you might have suspected here.

In case you didn’t know, Hulu is going to fee service next year, just getting the word out now.

staples, paints, michaels

October 19, 2009 by bitingthepenny

I finally hopped on over to Staples to get that 500 sheet ream for 2 bucks. The catch was that there was a rebate. Luckily, it was online so I saved a stamp. In the end it came to 2.41, even cheaper than Wal-mart by 35 cents! I will finally knit another blouse, and this time it will only cost me under 7 bucks. My last skein I got with a 50% coupon from Michaels, so marked down to 2.15.

I got another Rainforest Cafe for ten bucks off 25 bucks purchase which expires 12/09. I have a Bed, Bath, Beyond coupon for 20% off which expires next month.

I will also donate a washcloth, boots, and a scarf for a North Dakota reservation!

Amazon finds, some trips, donations

October 10, 2009 by bitingthepenny

I had some really good finds at Amazon. With the 22 bucks I got back for the trade-in program (sellling off DVDs I do not miss), I got in return an armchair reader for 8 bucks and Ninja Reflex Wii for 7 bucks. I didn’t think I’d ever get a Wii game that cheap! I did gave in and buy Wii Fit Plus (and was wondering how much more they would have), WOW was I impressed! They had 20 more games on the Plus which I LOVE, and made my Wii gamestation purchase worth it. I am most likely going to give my exercise DVDs and Youtube clips a break and stick to Wii.
I went to an open house for a volunteering place, and BOY was I glad I saw it to see what I didn’t miss. I was mulling for the past year whether I should make the effort to drive such a distance for volunteering, but now that I saw it didn’t miss anything. I also rarely go to exhibits like those by myself, but GLAD I hadn’t dragged any friends with me. I was only there for a few minutes to support their bake drive and that was it.

Bed Bath and Beyond, Michaels

I really really wanted that Bender Ball pilates set, so I got it with my 5 dollar off coupon. Mum got Sofa protectors with a 20% coupon and marked off 8 bucks. Gave in and decided to make another blouse, and guestimated 8 bucks for yarn using those 40% off coupons. Will eat DimSum and got a 15% off coupon for that for registering at the restaurant.

World Market kicks and sears

September 20, 2009 by bitingthepenny

If you want a shopping fix w/o breaking the budget, I recommend going to World Market. They offer free gourmet and tea samples and plus they have small bottles of tasty sauces to buy and try out. I bought Nutella packet for 1.29 and bought the best jam I’ve ever tasted. It is Chipotle/Raspberry jam I hadn’t seen anywhere and it comes in a cute one ounce bottle.

Our local Sears is rumored to be closing soon, and it was too bad. I found some FAntastic deals there where clothes would get marked down more and more (check with the price-checker) beyond what it said on the price tag. I am hoping to get a blouse marked down to 7 bucks with the 15% coupon and it being on sale from 15 bucks full price.

Bare with me folks

September 18, 2009 by bitingthepenny

This blog was taking a last priority on me with a thousand other things happening. I did do a bargain hunt at Borders with some excellent gifts for buddies. There was an organizing fancy file folder set sold for four bucks, and I liked it so much I am buying for my own use as well. I got a knitting book on sale for 3 bucks; I rarely if ever buy knitting books as there are thousands of patterns online, but it would look good for my shelves. Lastly, buyin all this at Borders gave me some points for their points reward systems. KNOCK on wood this store doesn’t fold end of this year!

I managed to sign up for my first art class in FOUR YEARS! Also to boot is finding a coupon for purchasing materials at the store.

Target, The Limited

September 6, 2009 by bitingthepenny

Went shopping with a buddy at some high-end stores; I was THIS close to shelling out dough for a 44 dollar blouse. I’ve NEVER spent that much on a blouse. I had second thoughts and tried Ebay but couldn’t find it. I had my solace purchase and searched a blouse today at Target at 15 bucks. It’s a gorgeous neckline for their Merrino casualwear. also oddly, I was given a dollar off anything from their Cafe and got a cappucino for free.
